Golgi Stack In Bridal Attire
Byung-Ho Kang (UCB)

Electron microscope tomography
Electron tomography-based reconstruction of a dividing Golgi stack (colored stack cisternae) in a root meristem cell of Medicago sativa (alfalfa). The Golgi is docked to an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) export site that gives rise to COPII buds (orange spheres) and COPII vesicles (yellow spheres). The Golgi matrix is shown as a white lace-like envelope and is seen to encompass the Golgi stack, and the COPII vesicles, and to extend up and around the COPII buds. All this is the machinery that translates messenger RNA into protein.
