This image is an Adobe Photoshop representation of glass histology slides stacked in order of assigned case numbers. Individual Surgical Pathology and Autopsy cases can generate quantities of slides ranging from 20 to over 100 from cut tissue sections. Due to diagnosis complexities, tissues receive a variety of stains that lead the pathologist to a correct diagnosis of disease. Currently glass slides are stored for at least ten years, and as time and technology progress, these cut tissue sections will eventually be scanned in high resolution format and stored electronically, eliminating the need for storage of these bulky, space consuming entities.
